THAILAND HOSTED THE 4th VIDEO CONFERENCE ON GLOBAL HEALTH SECURITY AGENDA (GHSA): DETECT 1: NATIONAL LABORATORY SYSTEM


Chaired by Dr. Apichai Mongkol, Director General of the Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, 7 pm (Thailand Time),  31 May 2016, the video conference was attended by representatives of all lead countries of GHSA: Detect 1 including USA, South Africa,  and Thailand as well as WHO and USAID, highlights are as follows;


1. Discussed and supported the draft Regional Strategic Roadmap on Laboratory Strengthening [2016- 2020] proposed by Thailand aiming for providing countries a general guidance to countries in developing the National Roadmap on GHSA: Detect 1 and serving as a monitoring framework;
2.  Noted an update on the 1st Regional Workshop to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on 27 29 July 2016  which expecting about 100-120 participants from lead countries, contributing countries, ASEAN and SAARC countries, as well as key development partners; and
3 Noted an update on the Face-to-Face Meeting of Lead Countries on 28 July 2016, Bangkok, Thailand as a platform to discuss and provide direction in accelerating an implementation of the Regional Strategic Roadmap on Laboratory System Strengthening [2016-2020].

GHSA, launched in 2014 to promote global health security as an international security priority, aims to enhance and complement an implementation of an International Health Regulation 2005 through identified 11 Action Packages. Among others, Thailand takes leadership on the two Action Packages including “Detect 1: National Laboratory System Strengthening” “Detect 5: Workforce Development”.
