GLOBAL HEALTH SECURITY ACTION PACKAGE- NATIONAL LABORATORY SYSTEM (DETECT 1)

Chaired by Dr. Apichai Mongkol, Director General of Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, hosted by Thailand on 31 March 2016, the 3rd Package Conference call via VDO conference has reached an agreement on joint collaborative efforts in for 2016’s Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) activities, Detect 1: National Laboratory System.


Attended by representatives of lead countries including USA, South Africa, and Thailand as well as   WHO and USAID, highlights are as follows;

1.     Identified joint activities among lead countries: promoting utilization of the Joint External Evaluation (JEE); establishing regional specimen referral system; and convening international platforms for sharing experiences and lesson learnt;
2.     Agreed on activities for 2016 annual plan; and
3.     Welcomed and supported the 1st Regional Workshop Enhancing Regional Partnership towards Strengthening Laboratory System in Accelerating GHSA’s Implementation to be held in Thailand on 27 29 July 2016 and Face – to face Meeting of Lead Countries on 28 July 2016.
GHSA, launched in 2014 to promote global health security as an international security priority, aims to   enhance and complement an implementation of an International Health Regulation 2005 by addressing cross-sectoral approach. Proceeding its leadership further, Thailand takes leadership on two Actions Packages including Detect 1: National Laboratory System” and “Detect 5: Workforce Development”.

In 2016, Thailand through the Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand leads in Package Conference Call for Detect 1: Lab Strengthen System. The next video conference call will be on 31 May 2016, 7 pm, Thailand time.
